Easy Tips For Removing Rubber Stamp Ink from Fabric and Skin

Rubber Stamp Station – Ink Experts

The people at Rubber Stamp Station are experts on stamps, and with every stamp comes a supply of ink. There’s always a risk of getting ink on your skin and clothes when you use stamps, so we’ve compiled a healthy guide to help you with removing ink from fabric and skin.

Removing Ink from Fabric

There are a few options open to you when it comes to removing ink from fabric and clothes, depending on the type of fabric and the materials you want to use for removal:

  • Most kitchens have white vinegar, which makes the most convenient option a combination of white vinegar and warm water. This is not a great option if the fabric you’ve inked is cotton or linen, however. Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with a quart of warm water. Soak the fabric in this solution for an hour, then rinse with warm water.
  • Another option open to you requires dishwashing detergent and ammonia. Mix 1 quart of warm water, ½ teaspoon of dishwashing detergent, and 1 tablespoon of ammonia into a solution. Then, soak the fabric in the solution for 30 minutes. Rinse completely with warm water.
  • The last option requires rubbing alcohol. Mix rubbing alcohol with warm water in a 1:1 ratio. After you’ve diluted the rubbing alcohol with warm water, use cotton balls (or paper towels) to dab at the stain. You should be able to blot the stain away once it’s loosened. You may need to repeat several times as it’s a more delicate option than soaking the entirety of the fabric. Afterward, rinse with warm water.

Removing Ink from Skin

To remove ink from the skin, blot or rub at the spot with a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol. It’s that easy! You can also use soap containing pumice. We recommend Gojo.

50 Uses for Rubber Stamps – Part 10 (Stationary Projects)

stationary project stamp ideas

Part 10 of our 50 Uses for Rubber Stamps series brings great ideas for stationary projects! Here are a few great ideas from Rubber Stamp Station to help you narrow down what kind of stamp you need for your stationary projects.

47. Faux Foil Printing on Stationary

Foil printing on business cards and other stationary can get very expensive. Fortunately, it is possible to add your own faux foil printing to spice up your custom stationary . All you need is a stamp pad with metallic ink! Faux foil borders, text, and logos will really set you business card, invitations, and other custom stationary projects apart from the rest of the crowd without costing a fortune.

Product Warning: Trodat stamps were not made to be used with other brands of ink. Using non-Trodat ink may permanently damage your stamp and render it unable to function for its intended purpose.

48. Multicolored Stamp Impressions

Are you tired of always stamping with the same color of ink? When you use a Trodat stamp that requires an ink pad, you can purchase multiple colors of ink. But, rather than simply stamping with one color of ink, you can carefully apply multiple colors to create a unique, multicolored impression. All you need is your custom stamp, Trodat ink pads containing the colors of your choice, and a small paint brush for each color. It is best to have one paint brush for each color so you avoid having to stop and wash your brush between colors. Once you have all your supplies, simply take each brush and apply the individual colors where you want them to show up on the stamp. When you are done, test the stamp impression on a piece of scrap paper.

It may take some trial and error to figure out how much ink to apply. You will likely need to apply several coats to each section as the ink will be harder to apply with a brush than it would be by simply pressing the stamp into the pad. The more intricate the stamp design is, the more difficult this technique will be. Bear this in mind when selecting your stamp for this projects. Larger lettering and less detailed graphics will make this project easier.

Choosing Ink for Your Trodat or Ultimark Rubber Stamp

Choosing ink

Without ink, your rubber stamp may look pretty and professional, but it won’t do you much good. So what do you do when your stamp runs out of ink? Can you refill it or do you have to buy a new stamp?

Choosing ink for Trodat Stamps

When your high quality rubber stamp is in need of new ink, you’ll first want to clarify a few specifications about your stamp. First, you need to determine what brand your stamp is. We carry two brands, Trodat and Ultimark. It is important to note that the ink for these two brands is never interchangeable.

For Trodat stamps, be sure to choose a replacement pad or ink made by Trodat, not by Ultimark. If you use Ultimark ink instead, the rubber dye on your high quality rubber stamp will begin to swell because it’s not compatible with oil-based ink made by Ultimark. This will result in a poor stamp impression and a ruined rubber stamp.

Have a self-inking Trodat stamp? Lost your stamp pad or have one that has aged to a point where you can no longer use it? You need to find the replacement pad designed specifically for the model number on your stamp. Just find the correct model, choose your ink color and be on your way!

However, if your rubber stamp pad is simply dried up and out of ink, there is no need to buy a whole new pad. Just buy a bottle of Trodat refill ink. This is available in blue, black, green, violet and red. Our versatile refill ink is best kept in multiple colors with multiple pads to ensure that you always have the color of ink you need!

Choosing ink for Ultimark Stamps

If your stamp is made by Ultimark, the process is a bit simpler for you. Because all of the Ultimark stamps we sell are of the pre-inked variety, you’ll want Ultimark Stamp Ink, available in either ½ oz or 2 oz bottles.

Remember, Trodat ink can never be used with Ultimark products. While both brands make great stamps, Trodat ink is a lower viscosity than Ultimark ink, which causes Trodat ink to leak out of any Ultimark stamp. This would completely defeat the purpose of your mess-free self-inking stamps, and no one wants to be stuck cleaning that mess up!

Remember, always match the brand of ink to the brand of stamp. If you ever have any questions, our experienced rubber stamp experts are always available to help you with all of your rubber stamp needs. Do not hesitate to call us at 1 (850) 7STAMPS for assistance. Have a wonderful New Year!

Quick Tips for Cleaning Ink off Skin and Fabrics

When using rubber stamps, there is always a risk of getting ink on yourself or your clothes. Don’t panic! Here are some quick tips from your Trodat rubber stamp experts at the Rubber Stamp Station on how to remove ink from your hands and clothes.

Cleaning Ink Off Bare Skin

If you get ink on your skin, you only need a few supplies to clean it off:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towels
  • Gojo (or similar soap containing pumice)

It is simple enough to clean most of the ink off bare skin with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Once a majority of the ink has been removed, you can simply wash the rest of it off with warm water and a soap containing pumice such as Gojo. Any leftover discoloration of the skin should disappear within 24 hours.

If you are unlucky enough to get the ink on clothing or upholstery, the cleaning process gets a little more complicated. There are several options to try.

Cleaning Ink Off Fabrics

Option 1

You will need a few supplies:

  • 1 quart warm water
  • ½ tsp. dishwashing detergent
  • 1 tbsp. ammonia

All these ingredients get mixed together to create a solution in which the stained fabric should be soaked for half an hour. After soaking, the fabric should be rinsed well in warm water. If some ink still remains, it is time to move on to the next option.

Option 2

This is not a good option for cotton or linen based fabrics, but should work on most others. The supplies you will need include:

  • 1 quart of warm water
  • 1 tbsp. white vinegar

These should be mixed to create a solution in which the stained fabric should be soaked for one hour before rinsing in warm water. If some staining still remains, there is a third option to try.

Option 3

This option requires:

  • Rubbing alcohol diluted with warm water in a 1:1 ratio
  • Paper towels or cotton balls

Dilute the rubbing alcohol with warm water and use a paper towel or cotton ball to apply the solution directly to the stain. Hold the solution over the stain until it begins to loosen. When the stain begins to loosen, gently dab it away. Depending on the size and severity of the stain, you may need to reapply this several times before the stain begins to dissipate. Once you have gotten as much of the stain out as possible, rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Keys to Success

  1. Always use warm water as this will loosen the stain and make your job easier. Cold water will set the stain and make cleaning ink stains that much more difficult.
  2. The sooner you remove the stain, the more you will be able to get out. The longer you wait, the less you will be able to salvage, especially with delicate fabrics.

We hope you get that stain out! On the other hand, you may want to leave a mark on fabric—you can use a clothing marker stamp to leave an identifying impression on clothes, towels, uniforms, etc. Never lose a garment or accessory again!
